English Dub Review: Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun “The Great Heroes Gather”

Overview

The Thirteen Crowns discuss their future and nominate candidates for the next Demon King.

Our Take

Picking up right after the previous episode, this installment finally dives into the long-awaited political side of the Demon Realm. The Thirteen Crowns gather for an important meeting, though naturally not everyone shows up. With Bachiko filling in as a representative, her reunion with Paimon immediately brings the expected chaos, while the Three Greats arrive to address the growing instability and the need for a new Demon Lord. Their solution? Opening the selection process and nominating candidates of their own, specifically their grandsons, because apparently even the most powerful demons are still proud grandparents.

The new candidates, Leiji and Razberry, make strong impressions in very different ways. Leiji carries himself like a strict commander but follows his own unpredictable rules, while Razberry’s carefree attitude hides a surprisingly impressive rise through his school’s ranks. Standing alongside them is Iruma, who somehow becomes a Demon Lord candidate despite being the biggest secret in the room. Instead of giving an intimidating speech about his achievements, Iruma proudly lists his strangest accomplishments, perfectly showing how far he has come from the timid boy he once was. Meanwhile, Baal’s involvement and knowledge of Iruma’s true identity add both a sinister undercurrent and an uneasy layer of tension to the entire process…

Overall, this episode succeeds at doing exactly what it sets out to accomplish: building excitement for the next major arc while expanding the world beyond Babyls. The introduction of new candidates, the involvement of the Thirteen Crowns, and the possibility of a much larger selection process create plenty of interesting possibilities moving forward. Whether through comedy, political intrigue, or Iruma’s unusual path toward leadership, the series continues proving that it can balance its wholesome charm with surprisingly serious world-building.
