Mutant Resort Mayhem: The Nacelle Company Unleashes Indie Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Isla Monstro’

The indie animation scene is getting a wildly chaotic, creature-filled shot in the arm. The Nacelle Company has officially acquired global distribution rights to Isla Monstro, a new adult animated sci-fi comedy feature film from Abyssmal Entertainment.

Fans of nostalgic monster movies and late-night adult animation didn’t have to wait long to book their stay: the movie launched digitally on June 30th across major VOD platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play.

Described by its creators as a spiritual love child of Aqua Teen Hunger Force, South Park, and Weekend at Bernie’s II, Isla Monstro brings a scrappy, mid-2000s Adult Swim energy to a feature-length B-movie parody.

The Plot: A 5-Star Resort for 10-Star Mutants

The film follows Duke, a lovable, chronic underachiever who has failed at every single hair-brained scheme he’s ever attempted. His luck takes a bizarre turn when he accidentally falls off a cruise ship and washes ashore on a mysteriously abandoned, top-secret government island.

Duke quickly discovers the island is far from empty. It is entirely overrun by bizarre monsters and genetic experiments left behind by a failed 1980s DARPA “super soldier” project. Rather than panicking, Duke hits upon his grandest idea yet: capitalize on the chaos. He decides to transform the island into a world-class luxury getaway resort, putting the terrifying mutants to work as his hospitality staff—much to the absolute horror of the United States government.

An All-Star Voice Cast of Animation Legends

Behind the Mutant Madness

Isla Monstro is directed and animated by Steven Shea, who also co-wrote the script alongside lead actor James Schrader. The film originally made its waves on the festival circuit, celebrating its world premiere at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival.

The film’s distinctive style is brought to life by illustrators Logan Van Der Wolf, Zia Izzy, Elly Karipides, and Chickenz, backed by a massive, 86-minute original musical score composed by Rob Reider. Pop culture maestro Brian Volk-Weiss and Mike De Trana serve as executive producers, with Shea and Anna Roberts producing.

“Getting to be a part of the Nacelle family is a dream,” said director Steven Shea. “With their awesome portfolio of animation and blend of comic-con and comedy, it’s the perfect home for our mutant-filled resort!”

Nacelle’s Brian Volk-Weiss shared the enthusiasm: “We’re excited to finally get this fantastic animated film out for the world to see! I predict you’re all gonna love it!”

Abyssmal Entertainment and Nacelle are leaning heavily into retro collector culture for the film’s rollout. In tandem with the digital release, fans can get their hands on physical media, spin-offs, and tangible merch:
