English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “Episode 9”

Overview:

Mizuki and Sano continue to try to deal with Makita. After he has a conversation with Sano, it seems things might escalate.

Our Take(Spoilers):

You might be wondering why I mentioned a trigger warning, but then again, if you’ve been watching and understand Makita’s character, you might not wonder. Makita attempts to assault Mizuki, and luckily, Sano shows up to stop him. How this is handled is crazy to me. On one hand, they lean into the belief that Mizuki is a boy, but does that make the assault okay? From what I could tell, Makita suffers no consequences for his actions. Whether Mizuki is a girl or a boy shouldn’t matter in this regard, and maybe this is another thing that we can chalk up to when this story was written.

Other than that, it seems that we are done with the summer job arc. At this point, I don’t know why Sano is continuing to hide the fact that he knows Mizuki’s secret. If anything, I feel like that could be helpful in how they approach things from here on out if they both knew. Plus, I feel that something like that would come up after an attempted assault, but not in this case, I guess.
