English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “The Source of Strength”

Overview:

Sano decides to rejoin the track team, but then his old rival, Kagurazaka, shows up to provoke him.

Our Take(Spoilers):

This was a wild and weird episode for a multitude of reasons. First and foremost, it was crazy to see the outfit that Hokuto put on in a split second. He was basically wearing a bikini, and it was weird. I understand that he’s gay, but putting that on and showing it off in front of a high school student is weird, no matter what. I don’t think he’s a bad guy or anything but you can tell this was a manga from the 90’s because of things like that.

Hokuto was given a gift as well but his nephew, Minami, forgot to give it to him. Unfortunately, Shuuichi and friends were having a hot pot party and mistook the alcoholic gift for one of their drink beverages. You can probably guess what happened next, Sano drank a lot of it and got drunk. He then went back to his room. When Mizuki went to check on him, he ended up kissing her. The fallout from this particular incident probably won’t matter because that’s how manga and anime from that time period went. He won’t remember and I imagine Mizuki won’t say anything.
