English Dub Review: Tougen Anki “Haunted by Doubt”

Overview:

The squadrons are set in motion as doubts creep in about what’s coming.

Our Take:

I have a feeling that when this arc comes to an end, I’m going to be sad. Shiki and Mikado should be friends, but because of circumstances, I think we will get a depressing ending to their friendship. Momoiwa is one of those characters you love to hate for the chaos and anarchy he brings to the characters we’ve come to enjoy. But I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of tropes like this, where friends become bitter enemies. It’s a good trope! The problem is, it hurts my heart more than it probably should.

One frustrating thing is when characters are unnecessarily dumb. Mikado called Shiki, and with seeds of doubt planted, Shiki acted suspiciously when he couldn’t tell Mikado what he was doing. I’m sure that Mikado could hear Byoubugaura in the background. So, why didn’t Shiki say that he was on a date with a girl and that was why he couldn’t talk? I’m not the best at deceiving people either, but even I would have thought to do that in the moment.
