English Dub Review: Rent-a-Girlfriend “Guilt and Girlfriend”

Overview:

Mami confronts Chizuru and urges her to make a decision.

Our Take:

I’m coming to the conclusion that Mami is like the Joker, she’s an agent of chaos. I don’t think even she knows what her endgame is when it comes to what she wants to happen with Kazuya and Chizuru. I don’t think she’s a jilted lover that’s still in love with Kazuya and wants him back or anything. If that was the case then I don’t think she would be telling Ruka that she could become his “real” girlfriend. But trying to figure out what she wants is a mystery in itself. I think she might be someone that finds joy in the misery of others but I hope not.

Minor issue to cover, I think Ruka was voiced by someone else in this episode but I think it was a one week stand-in so we’ll see if that changes next week.

What won’t change next week no matter was is me hating this show. It’s going nowhere with no progress and Kazuya is the worst rom-com protagonist in the history of the genre. I understand that you’re trying to do right by a bunch of different people but ultimately you need to solve this problem. The easiest way to solve it is just ask a simple question. But we need this series to last over 400 chapters of a manga apparently.
