English Dub Review: Lord of Mysteries “Teacher”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

After investigating a dream haunted by a wraith, Klein begins to notice strange things about a colleague.

Oh okay, so this episode does have a title, it’s just that Crunchyroll is glitching out again. For those confused as to why I’m mentioning this, last week another show I cover also had this problem and I genuinely wondered if it just didn’t have a title for some reason. How glad I am to know that it’s just continued incompetence from the people running this app! As for the episode itself, it’s another day that ends in Y for Klein, so that means there’s yet another strange Beyonder cult for them to deal with or hint at or something. But this time, it seems that was just a pretense for him to find a portrait of what appears to be a teacher of his, Azik, from hundreds of years ago. Well, that’s rather strange, even for the usual strangeness he now finds himself in on a regular basis, but what’s stranger is the explanation. Apparently Azik picked a Beyonder pathway a long time ago that allowed him to be essentially immortal, but then he has to sleep for a couple decades and erase his memories, with his previous lives only coming back to him in vague dreams. I mean I guess that’s better than just having multiple lifetimes worth of memories to sift through all the time.

But the point of this reveal is mainly for Klein’s benefit, as he too is an odd duck with memories of another life, though those are more the life he came from before he trapped himself in the body of the real Klein. Though they’re both unique weird situations so that’s about as much in common as they need. We also see Klein developing his Beyonder abilities by accessing some strange golden fluid that was used in a mission earlier in the episode, with him finding out that it is in fact the blood of a god that is…basically the sun? Or at least a star? Regardless, this seems to put him on the pathway to learning Sequence 4 abilities, which would be a big step up for him…I think. I’m not sure what level he’s at, and I only recently understood that the number going DOWN is how you know the power is going UP. Basically, Klein is continuing to investigate the strange magics of this world and getting closer to being the god he claims to be to his Tarot club. Meanwhile I am still thoroughly confused by just about everything here!
