English Dub Review: Kaiju No.8 “Compatible User”

You get a kaiju! Everyone gets a kaiju!

Overview:

Reno Ichikawa has been chosen to wield the power of Numbers Weapon 6, the most powerful of them all.

Our Take:

Hoshina has a conversation with No.10 about No.9 (I wish they had better names) and learns that 10 was created by 9. I’m not sure why that’s such a big deal, but everyone started to freak out when they heard it. This led to 10 telling Hoshina that he would tell him more if he would fight with him, but not against each other. He wants Hoshina to use him as a Numbers Weapon, so now it seems like everyone is getting a weapon like that. Kafka IS No.8, Kikoru is getting the weapon her mother used, Hoshina is getting No.10, and Ichikawa is being tested to see if he’s compatible with No.6.

Anime likes to have its trios, and Kaiju No.8 is not different. Kafka, Kikoru, and Ichikawa are the trio of this anime, and it makes sense that they would all be eligible for the best weapons in the arsenal. Well… I guess Kafka wasn’t eligible per se, but he’s been a kaiju for a while now. It is a little disappointing because he almost seems like the weakest of the bunch now, and I hope that he unlocks an ability or something soon to keep up with his friends.
