“South Park” Disappears from Paramount+ Amid Streaming Rights Dispute

Fans of the irreverent animated series “South Park” have been hit with some unexpected news: the show has been largely removed from Paramount+, causing frustration and confusion among subscribers. As of today, July 12, 2025, almost all seasons of the long-running Comedy Central hit have vanished from the streaming platform, particularly for international viewers.

The news broke as eagle-eyed fans noticed the sudden absence of “South Park” from the Paramount+ library outside the United States. In response to inquiries, a representative for Paramount+ stated on Reddit that the removal was due to the expiration of their international streaming license for the series. This was later corroborated by an individual familiar with the ongoing negotiations between Paramount and “South Park” creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who told TheWrap that discussions are underway to secure a new deal.

This development comes amidst reported tensions between the show’s creators and the streaming giant. Earlier in July, the premiere of “South Park”‘s highly anticipated 27th season on Comedy Central was delayed by several weeks, further fueling speculation about the show’s streaming future.

While the bulk of the “South Park” catalog has been pulled, some content remains available on Paramount+. Notably, specials and original movies produced specifically for the platform, such as “Post-COVID” and “The Streaming Wars,” are still accessible in most territories due to separate licensing agreements.

The removal has understandably sparked outrage among fans, many of whom subscribed to Paramount+ specifically to watch “South Park.” Paramount has acknowledged this frustration, stating, “We understand your frustration. Unfortunately, South Park has come to the end of the window in which we have the rights to carry it on Paramount+ which is why it has now had to come down from the platform.” The platform even offered instructions on how to cancel subscriptions for those unhappy with the change.

The situation highlights the complex and often contentious landscape of streaming rights in the digital age. With numerous platforms vying for content, licensing agreements can be intricate and their expirations can lead to abrupt removals of popular shows.

It remains to be seen how long “South Park” will remain absent from Paramount+ internationally, or if a new deal will be struck to bring the iconic series back to the platform. In the meantime, fans outside the US will have to seek out alternative ways to enjoy the misadventures of Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny.
