English Dub Review: Black Butler -Emerald Witch Arc- “His Butler, Calling”

Overview:

Sebastian and the others manage to escape the Werewolves’ Forest. Diederich tells Ciel something surprising.

Our Take:

I always find it funny that when the media wants to show character development in a female character, they have her cut her hair short. I understand there is probably some symbolism to it as well, but it gets hard to take it seriously at times. In this case, I liked it because I don’t think Sullivan has gotten to choose for herself in her entire life. While getting outfitted for her meeting with the Queen, she saw a picture of a woman with short hair and wanted to look like that. To the dismay of Sebastian and everyone else, she cut her hair short, but in this case, I think it made sense; it’s just amusing that that’s where writers often go.

In other news, Ciel may have a relative out there somewhere. Diederich had a meeting with Undertaker, and he let it slip that there is another Earl Phantomhive. This could have been about Ciel himself, but with the enormity of the response, I would imagine there is someone else out there with the Phantomhive name. Hopefully, we get some hint next time, but it seems like we’re full steam ahead with meeting the Queen.
