Our Take
And just like that, it looks as though Andy has a new teacher and is a serious contender for the GCW following a controversial bout with the entirety of the Perm Gang. For whatever reason we needed to get background on the Perm Gang on three different fronts 1) to reestablish all of the damage that the wrestling group caused to Andy and her family and 2) to learn about the humble beginnings of the Perm Gang from a street crew to that of a wrestling team and 3) why Immaculate is acting the way he’s acting when getting in the ring with Andy.
With this being a two-part finale, I’m surprised the producers of Invincible Fight Girl go more the Thanos route in Avengers: Infinity War and just do a whole episode mostly tailored towards the Perm Gang and then just leave out everything having to do with the match and Andy herself. Then the actual finale would’ve been a bit more front-and-center and we wouldn’t have had to do all of this back-and-forth during the match which was a bit off-putting. Moreover, despite having spent most of the season focusing a lot on Andy’s friends, boy were they no help when it came to Andy’s match. Like you would think if the Perm Gang was going to bend the rules for a win maybe Andy would’ve done the same, but perhaps the producers were looking for more of a character-building episode here.
We also get to spend a bit more time with Keith David’s “Scouter” who is being portrayed almost like a Vince McMahon in that you can tell he has something up his sleeve that would probably be fleshed out more in the future. It also becomes apparent that a couple of Andy’s past squabbles whilst on her road to learning the Perfect Strike are going to be joining her gaggle of pals on her road to stardom, but which ones stick around will be anyone’s bet.
The conclusion to everything was rather obvious but I still very much enjoyed the journey to the finish. We’ll get into more detail in the season review, but Juston Gordon-Montgomery definitely put his love and passion into anime and wrestling into this show and that is very much on display here. There are definitely some rookie mistakes that need to be ironed out and that’s going to come with experience on all fronts, but I like where we are at with this series and I’m looking forward to seeing a second season come to fruition and latch on to Andy’s exciting story.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
