Report: Adult Animation Makes For Majority Of Top Searches Of Sitcom Stars

Increditools recently reported that Netflix’s Emmy-winning animated drama Arcane is the ninth-most anticipated (with over 300k monthly searches) release in 2024, but in terms of number of searches, animated sitcoms still reign supreme.

The research conducted by NoDeposit365.co.uk analyzed nationwide Google search volumes to determine the popular sitcom character. The study examined Google search volumes for over 50 sitcoms, looking at almost 300 sitcom characters over 12 months.  Here are the results:

The second most popular fictional sitcom character was revealed to be Bart Simpson from the cartoon The Simpsons. Americans search on average 291,000 times each month for Bart. The show has been running since 1990 and has over 750 episodes, with no end in sight. The Simpsons movie  was released in cinemas several years ago bringing the family from Springfield off the small screen and onto the big screen.

Bart’s father, Homer, was the third most popular sitcom character. The data shows that on average in America there are 289,333 searches every month for Homer Simpson. Both Bart and Homer also starred in the

The fourth most popular sitcom character was from Family Guy; and it was Peter Griffin. It was revealed that there are over 286,548 searches every month for character who was also known for making The Trashman’s 1963 single ‘Surfin’ Bird’ hugely popular again after repeated episodes featured Peter rocking out to the song.

Stan Marsh was the fifth most popular sitcom character; the data revealed there are over 252,167 searches on average every month for the character from South Park. The show was created by Matt Stone and Trey Parker in 1998 and has been running for 26 seasons and there’s a new game on the way coming May 26th.

Rounding out the list was Bojack Horseman in eighth, Kenny McCormick in ninth and Kyle Broflovski in tenth. Bojack Horseman had 210,017 searches per month on average, Kenny McCormick was searched by fans 190,292 times a month on average. Finally, fans searched for Kyle Broflovski 182,883 times a month on average.

It is interesting that the top ten most popular sitcom characters are all males, with Chandler Bing having more than double the number of searches than the most popular female sitcom character Marge Simpson.

The findings also reveal that many of these cartoon fictional characters are more popular than the sitcom characters played by real actors.  This could be due to many cartoon sitcoms having many more seasons than real-life actor-based sitcoms. The Simpsons has 35 seasons under its belt now, meaning that many in America have grown up with these characters or it could simply mean that because of the recent passing of Matthew Perry, searches for “Chandler Bing” skyrocketed as a result.
