English Dub Review: Delicious in Dungeon “Stewed Cabbage/Orcs”

Overview (Spoilers Below):

Reaching the third level of the dungeon, Senshi leads the crew to his secret vegetable garden. Later, they are accosted by a band of angry, desperate orcs.

Our Take:

With the dungeon-raiding crew already further down the massive dungeon, more delicacies and monsters are sure to follow. As expected, this week’s episode is no different, with Senshi introducing the gang to a healthier alternative to their monster-sized nutritional diet. The dungeon’s third floor is home to the abandoned Golden Castle, but it is also where Senshi resided before he first met Laios and the gang. The episode showcases Senshi further, with him performing his duty to keep the monsters in check on the third floor so they won’t go haywire and wreck the other floors. That includes farming for delicious vegetables on the golems, whose dirt bodies are full of nutrients. But don’t ask where Senshi gets the fertilizer to regrow the golems.

Following this healthy misadventure, the group has a run-in with the orcs while attempting to trade the vegetables for more ingredients. Much like the other content involving fantasy elements, Delicious in Dungeon has the usual piece of history involving the feud between the orcs and humans. It’s revealed that the orcs used to live on the surface until the humans and elves attacked the village, although that’s because the orcs destroyed theirs first, according to Marcille. Fortunately, this feud is met with a temporary truce, thanks to the power of making bread.

“Stewed Cabbage/Orcs” goes for a more interconnected narrative, unlike the second episode, which felt more like a series of stand-alone adventures involving food. Unsurprisingly, the result is just as delectable as its beneficial cuisines. Of course, it’s not without a few moments of plot development, mainly the orcs’s history with the Red Dragon, which helps the series prevent itself from being aimless. Here’s hoping we see more of their healthy cuisines like this during their dungeon-sized quest.
