OUR TAKE

Much like Spy X Family a few weeks ago, I Shall Survive Using Potions has decided to double up on episodes to make up for taking a break during the week of Thanksgiving. On one hand, this awful news for me, seeing as I quite vehemently dislike this show, and now have to watch two episodes back to back. On the other, we get to knock out two episodes out in one week and I can pull from two episodes worth of content and not talk about either very much. On that note, let’s begin. The first of these two episodes focuses on Kaoru becoming a victim of kidnapping and trying to protect other girls who are also victims. There are multiple moments where she could easily escape with her incredibly overpowered potion based abilities, such as putting some acid in the walls to get free or blow off the kidnappers’ heads like she did with that one guy last episode, but I guess she wants to maintain a cover of not being that same person…even though she has been wearing the same clothes for four years now and also still invokes Celeste’s name, like the same Kaoru from back then, but this is a medieval society with no social media, so…I guess it makes sense?

After that, we have a pretty disposable and obligatory hot springs episode. A good portion of it is Kaoru trying to be nosy about her friends’ potential love lives and then also making an odd amount of focus on her own lack of one, but then again she did say she was looking for a husband. She also has an odd obsession with being seen as pretty, with even the time with the kidnappers kinda giving her an ego boost since it meant she was seen as pretty enough to kidnap? She’s really not a great person, especially with how she handles using her powers sometimes, but I guess she did end up saving a lot of lives with them, so it kinda evens out. Anywho, we have reach the third quarter of the show, meaning there are three episodes left and still no clear idea where this is all headed or what this show has even been about this whole time. God, I really hope they don’t bring back that gray haired guy again. But he’s in the Opening and Ending, so he’ll probably get one more appearance. Maybe he’ll be Kaoru’s husband in the end! They would certainly deserve each other. Anyway, next week we’re probably back to one episode per week, which means I must suffer for just a little while longer. Pray for me, Bubbleblabber readers, pray for me.
