English Dub Review: My Isekai Life: I Gained a Second Character Class and Became the Strongest Sage in the World! “I Meant Too Strong”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Yuji overdoes everything, even when he’s trying not to. But when a dragon appears underneath the calamitous blue moon, the Tamer may be the only one who can prevent disaster.
Our Take:
Yuji may have easily taken care of the bandits, but his problems are just beginning. With them and the traitorous Rodis out of the picture, the sage and the remaining party, Tina and Lisa, continue their search for the rock dragon. Unfortunately, they also have to face a blue dragon, which appeared under the blue moon, as the mysterious cult foretold. They head off to hide in Delight Canyon and eventually find the rock dragon. But it didn’t take Yuji too long to destroy it with a powerful fire spell. The party earned 14 million gold due to bringing back the dragon’s skull and the bounty on Gelios, the cult’s member.
Amid the dragon hunt, the episode explores more of Yuji’s magic through a flashback of him participating in an exam. Because of his high skills from reading many magic books, Yuji’s spells are powerful enough to handle even the most formidable obstacles. Even when he’s using weak magic, he’s still the toughest tamer/sage to beat. So Yuji attempts to hide his true potential to avoid getting much attention by having the slimes take the credit and perform weak magic.
Characters like Yuji can be tough to sympathize with during occasions like this. Whenever someone has so much power at their disposal, it can be challenging to provide actual stakes for viewers like me to get our hearts racing. However, Yuji’s internal struggle to control his immense power prevented him from falling head first into that category. I’m curious to see if this development will continue to be more enjoyable throughout the season.
The episode’s second half displays more information on the blue dragon that emerged underneath the dark skies. This particular dragon is said to be so powerful that it can destroy an entire continent. The only solution to defeating it is a divine emissary. Unfortunately, the emissary didn’t show up when the church performed a summoning ceremony 30 years ago, so that’s one plan out of the water.
Despite that, the guild plans to attack the dragon the next day, with Yuji joining the fight. But not before he gets the Dagger of Kethis from Father Steyl, which would help him with his magic abilities. Since the dragon grows larger every time the sky turns dark, I feel the guild’s latest battle could be their last.
Regarding the plot progression and characters, “I Meant Too Strong” offers a much-needed improvement over the previous two. The slimes are getting closer to being less annoying than usual, which I can always take as a good thing. Additionally, the show did pretty well exploring Yuji’s reasonings for controlling his powerful skills through its flashback. Although, it does look like he needs his strength to fight something as massive as the blue dragon.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
