English Dub Review: Skeleton Knight in Another World “I Shall Cut Through the World’s Evils!”
There’s only one word to completely encapsulate the season finale of Skeleton Knight in Another World, and that’s “unleashed.” This is both good, and bad.
Is the last episode of the season a great spot for a flashback about the big bad evil of the season? That’s the question I’ve been asking myself since “I Shall Cut Through the World’s Evils!” got started. I don’t even know where to go with this one. However, it’s a well written flashback. It goes through what happened with Fumba, and why he’s working with the Revlon Empire.
However, what I want to get into, is the complete badass that’s Ifrit. Ifrit is an Islamic Demon, best known to most of us as being the coolest summons in any Final Fantasy game. And let me tell you, Skeleton Knight…‘s Ifrit does not disappoint. I was ready for this giant kaiju battle to be epic, but it kind of let me down. And it isn’t because of Ifrit. This demon just destroys the hydra that was shown last week in “The Monster-Taming Barbarian Laughs in the Darkness”. The hydra was built up for episodes now to be this be all, end all monster, and it ended like a wet fart.
Speaking of wet farts, we have Fumba. This guy was built up over like five episodes as an absolute boss. But the flashback, in hindsight, put Fumba exactly where you think he ends up. This bait and switch got me really heated while watching. How in the hell can you spend episodes making this guy seem like the antithesis to Arc, only to get absolutely destroyed in less than three attacks, to Ariane.
Now, I’m not pissed that Ariane got revenge for herself and her kin. That was absolutely the right move. Making her look like the absolute badass that she is is also the right move. However, making Fumba look completely inept was the wrong move. The only saving grace was that the confrontation was interweaved with the fight between Ifrit and the hydra.
The second half of the episode, was great. We get updates from the parts of the world we’ve been to during the season. We get an update with Yuriana and her negotiations with Lalatoya, as well as Yuriana’s machinations for the throne. Not to mention that we get an update with Sekt and finding out his sister is still alive. Then we get Domitianus’s reaction to the hydra dying and Fumba failing and dying. There is a huge setup for season two, and I’m all for it.
Overall, “I Shall Cut Through the World’s Evils!” was…good. Based on how insanely good Skeleton Knight… was overall, I was expecting a lot more. Don’t get me wrong. It was great to see Ariane and Arc go completely unleashed and go full power. But that came at the expense of making them seem too powerful for the series itself. At this point, if a world breaking hydra and its controller are useless as big evils, then what would pose a challenge? And that’s a challenge that Skeleton Knight… has to overcome in season two.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
