Our Take

For the first episode, much of the humor is your by-the-numbers sitcom storyline built around jealousy and misunderstanding. As Hector makes the mistake of saying no to a Dance Class and not knowing anything about the dance instructor “Ivan” as a person, attempts to sabotage Rosa’s fun, only for an unexpected twist to happen that found a weird way to work itself out.

As for the other episode, the title itself literally translates to “Bad Dog” but much of its proceedings involved an obvious twist that you end up seeing from a mile away involving the mischievous tomboyish girl Becky as you learn about the kind of activities she does with her personal pet, the pieces slowly fall into place, we also learn a bit of Lalo’s origin story and his connection to Becky’s pet which I thought was interesting.

Overall both were passable episodes. While the heart of the first one’s story was about Hector learning to reconnect with his wife in a different way which lead to us getting to know this new character named “Ivan” who openly reveals something unexpected about himself that felt subtle yet progressive for a kids cartoon. While the other episode fleshed out Lalo’s past in both a fun and unexpected way.
