English Dub Review: The Detective is Already Dead “That’s Yui-nya Quality”
Overview:
The person looking for an ace detective is none other than Yui Saikawa, a famous idol. Someone has threatened to steal her family’s sapphire that is worth 3 billion yen. Nagisa takes on the case but Kimi thinks there might be more to it. He becomes a huge Yui-nya fan while doing research and even attends her rehearsal for the concert there she is attacked by a fan.
Our Take:
Is an anime even worth watching if it doesn’t have an idol performing a music number somewhere? Your answer should be no. The Detective is Already Dead agrees with this sentiment and we get a bit of one this time with probably more to come next episode. After all, it wouldn’t be Yui-nya quality if we didn’t get to see her actually perform right?
Speaking of Yui, she is voiced by Jad Saxton. After a few moments of hearing the character, I thought to myself “This is such a Jad Saxton character” she does it so well. She always does an awesome job playing cute but sassy characters. I am continually impressed by Austin Tindle in this show as well.
I really love the character interactions. It seems like Kimizuka just riffs off of whoever he happens to be interacting with and it always goes well. I think it says a lot about Kimi as a character that he can feel out whoever he is with and adjust accordingly. The only thing I don’t really like is it has those harem vibes where everyone but the main character is female and they’re just there to fall in love with him. I hope I’m wrong on that one but with this case at least it feels like Kimi is more the detective than Nagisa. Siesta being in the power role was pretty cool and unique, it doesn’t seem like that same dynamic is at play with Nagisa and Kimi, not yet at least.
Kimi seems to think that Yui is lying about the upcoming heist and to be honest I kind of do too. I mean she gives excuses for why the police won’t help and why she can’t get extra guards but they’re pretty bad as far as excuses go. I do like smart characters and Kimi does seem to be pretty intelligent. Sure he turns into a huge fanboy for apparently no reason but I think even that was a part of his plan to solve this case.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
