English Dub Review: Dragon Goes House-Hunting: “A Community of Homes”
Overview: Letty (Michael Kovach) and Dearia (Steven Kelly) travel to an apartment complex in the hopes of finding suitable caretakers for his new little bird friend, but the red dragon begins to realize the best parent may have been taking care of him all along.
Our Take: Dragon Goes House-Hunting has followed the same formula seemingly for every episode since day one. Every entry entails Letty and Dearia inspecting a home that is quite clearly not perfect for the red dragon. This in turn causes our scaredy-cat to spaz out with all the dangerous, harebrained houses and sometimes their owners who are similarly so. Not to mention because as kind as he is, Dearia is also secretly a masochist, because of course that makes the torture he puts Letty through that much more enjoyable.
But this time around Letty actually develops a tad making it feel just a bit more meaningful this time around. However, even with it’s formulaic structure, I still find myself having a good time because of the humor and delivery that series cast members Michael Kovach and Steven Kelly can effortlessly bounce off of each other.
As Letty and Dearia explore options for viable parents, they traverse around a communal living space in the world as they meet all the different species that inhabit it. One after another there is some sort of oddity about each family and/or their situation they meet. So much so you start asking yourself: What’s wrong with this one? But it’s that question that keeps it fun and fresh. Whether it be a manticore with playful little cubs that are not-so-subtly hungry for arctic bird, a crazed fitness nut of a were-panther or some lunatic lumia with a collection of children, there is always some wacky imperfection that is utterly ridiculous and all the more funny because of it.
But what sets this episode apart somewhat from others in the past is the lesson Letty learns that causes him to develop, a little at least. It really was nice to see Letty finally grow a pair (of wings of course) that was born from the innate desire to protect the little winged Pip (his full name is way too arduous to type). Even if just for a little while, because in classic wussy fashion, his own fire was too hot for his mouth. Truthfully, I hope this reflects later on and is not just a one-off moment for him that is thrown under the rug. Granted the humor lies in his timid personality and that’ll probably always be present, but hopefully little by little he does grow to be more confident showing to be a genuine dynamic character.
“A Community of Homes” is a charming episode with more great laughs along with some good development for Letty that hopefully has a lasting impact as the series moves forward.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
