Our Take:
This week’s episode is a decent episode. However, it does give context on Parona’s reason for hiding March and the world’s society with Ninanna and Yanome. There’s a bit of action with Parona’s escape plan and a montage to show their enjoyment of Yanome before they get thrown into the prison.
For starters, Parona’s backstory sheds light on why and how she realizes that the ritual is disgusting. Then the lady impersonating as a priestess breaks it down for Parona about Yanome’s objective to take control of Ninanna. Parona’s determination to end the ritual is good. However, it’s unlikely the elder villagers will welcome them back with open arms even with Oniguma’s hide.
Fushi doesn’t play much of a role in the episode, so far he’s learning to talk from other people’s pain. There’s also his connection with March which doesn’t go unnoticed by the others. On the other hand, March gets a taste of the places outside of her village and continues her role as Fushi’s mother. However, it comes to a swift end after they’re thrown in prison. She is still a child and her puffy eyes while cleaning up Oniguma emphasize her conversation with it.
Now in contrast to Ninanna, Yanome is more developed. They have their own language, manners, and ambitions for the fertile lands of Ninanna. It’s abundantly clear when March wants to write a letter back to her parents but is unable to figure out where they live because of the districts and number of villages. It’s unsurprising to see Hayase mock March on her use of chopsticks, and mention how Fushi picks up things quickly.
Overall the episode is a set up to the next one with Parona’s escape and how it will turn out for them. Hopefully, they get out of it alive, but Hayase and her squad could still get them.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
