Review: Ducktales “They Put a Moonlander on Earth!”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Webby sets out to prove to a Moon-homesick Penumbra (Julie Bowen) that Earth can be a lot of fun by riding Glomgold’s newest gift to Duckburg, the suspicious Flintferris Glomwheel which becomes a separate subplot on its own…

Our Take:

As both storylines converge, there is a level of likability that Prenumbra has shown during the course of this episode, since season 2’s focus was on Della attempting to go back to earth while stuck on the moon, and now for Penumbra, it’s a bit backwards for her. As with most by-the-numbers “Fish out of Water” stories, adjusting to a new world can be tough, especially when the Moon-Native Prenumbra has mostly ever known growing up is the way of the warrior which consequently got her excluded from a private party by her own people. So what better way to acclimate herself and connect with the people of the earth than experience “earth-fun” right?

While the other subplot we learn that Glomgold may have possibly cut corners with a special attraction he’s designed which kinda shows the gross negligence of his ego, Dewey tries to get media attention and “Victim points” but is constantly overshadowed by a douchey kid named Timmy Jenkins. As a whole, the episode was well put together and it’s nice that the moon aliens have embraced Della’s mindset that Earth is a wonderful planet and that they are experiencing things that they never saw and thought of before while also in a subtle way revealed something new about Penumbra that nobody expected but it’s confirmed in a tweet by this episode’s director/writer and storyboard artist Sam King.
