Kenka Bancho Otome -Girl Beats Boys enters with a fun-filled episode in “Concert Brawl.” Hinako convinces Totomaru and Konparu to volunteer as event staff at Yuta Mirako’s concert.

There’s a bit more about Mirako’s past. The punk who is also a pop idol was betrayed by his friends in his youth. This radically affected his idea of friendship.

During Mirako’s concert, a fight indeed breaks out. Hinako, Totomaru, and Konparu aid Mirako in warding off the attackers. There’s a continuation of the boy or girl subplot from “The Punk Idol Arrives!” Mirako isn’t quite convinced that Hinako is a boy. This promises to provide a plot thread for the series as well as serve as a foundation for friendship.

This episode notably delves into character backstory well. That’s an area where few if any Kenka Bancho Otome -Girl Beats Boys proceeded. I hope this continues in future episodes. While the present day action is engaging, it’s fascinating to learn more about the core cast of characters. One aspect I’m not clear on is why there are so many punks, and in the Girl Beats Boy universe what exactly defines punk.

Ultimately, this is a solid, cohesive entry in the Kenka Bancho Otome series which lends further insight into characters and lore.
