REVIEW: THE LOONEY TUNES SHOW “SEMPER LIE”

When Bugs tells a small lie to Porky, it gathers steam to make everything far worse – it even prompts Daffy to join the U.S.Marines. Plus, Yosemite Sam’s mustache sings to him.

Spoilers Below

Bugs Bunny really doesn’t want to go to a festival with Porky where you dress as your favorite peach and act all peachy. Bugs tells a lie involving Lola  moving of which the portly one bites on line and sinker. Daffy also gets asked to go to the peach festival but he also kind of lies to get out of it and also hears about Bugs moving his lady. Later, Bugs goes to the pizzeria where Porky soon comes in and asks Lola about her move! Bugs comes up with another lie where he is now moving his sister “Vi-ola” and both Porky and Lola want to help. When Porky leaves, Bugs comes clean to Lola but she thinks Bugs really has a sister and she is just DYING to meet her! To try and pass the lie off as true, Bugs gets a bunch of his furniture and moves it into an abandoned building in a bad neighborhood all before Porky and Lola come by for the big move. After packing up the truck, Bugs has his furniture shipped BACK to his apartment JUST so his yarn continues to spin much to the delight of Porky and Lola, that said its expensive to ship and almost $1300 later it gets done(yes lying is expensive).  Back at Bugs’ apartment, the liar pants on fire pretends that a phone call is his sister so that Porky and Lola can leave and finally it looks as though Bugs is off the hook! Unfortunately, the next morning Porky and Lola track down the only ‘flight’ she is supposed to be ‘on’ ready to wish her goodbye which means Bugs has to get up and come up with another song and dance to get out of this one. So what does he do?? Bugs shows up dressed as a lady pretending to be ‘Viola’ of whom now has to fly to Albania but with the wrong US Passport in hand. As such, the bunny gets locked up by the local police and put in jail!!

Meanwhile, Daffy thinks Bugs is moving in with Lola so he is off to find a new free roomie. Worst yet, when Bugs’ furniture disappears, Daffy freaks out because now he’s all alone with no one to help pay his bills. Later, Daffy signs up to be a part of the US Marines so this way he has a place to stay and someone to feed him. At first Daffy thinks the Marines is the greatest thing ever until the very first morning when he has to get up and take orders from a bossy Sarge. Not surprisingly, Daffy half asses all of the drills but he gets his uniform and is all set to go. His first mission??? Save Bugs Bunny from an Albanian prison 1 year later, right on time for the NEXT peach festival! Daffy also leaves the Marines due to ‘flat feet’

Yep, don’t lie kids because it costs you money and gets you thrown in jail! I thought the main plot with Bugs was pretty funny and really thought out with Porky and Lola playing excellent support roles this time around. I really loved the last part where Bugs goes so far as to dress as his ‘sister’ JUST so he doesn’t have to be in the same country as a peach festival! Hahahaha. And all the money that he spent in the process really makes you wonder doesn’t it? Daffy had an interesting little plot too but it felt quite a bit rushed at the end offering little build-up that leads to a musical montage that parlays into a somewhat novel ending. All in all however, this one was truly peachy.
