Review: Star Wars Rebels “Twin Suns”
We check out on Star Wars Rebels for the show’s second season.
Spoilers Below
Ezra wakes up one night, getting a message from a holocron. It is Obi-wan Kenobi. The young Jedi takes this as a message that Obi-wan is alive and in danger. After all, Darth Maul is also looking for him. However, when he tries to convince Hera and the rest of the crew that Obi-wan is, in fact, alive, they refuse to go with him to check it out. They need to go to Lothar to prepare for a fight and they need Ezra to go with them. Stubbornly, Ezra steals a ship to find Obi-wan by himself. Well, sort of. Chopper sneaks onto the ship too.
At first, they are lost in space. But they follow the holocron and find Tatooine. Once they land, they are attacked by Sand People, who destroy their ship. The pair tries to find shelter but Ezra gets side-tracked into the desert. Chopper begrudgingly follows Ezra…until his gears fill with sand. That is when Ezra realizes what a terrible decision he made.
Luckily, Obi-wan Kenobi saves both Ezra and Chopper. Eventually, Maul shows up. Obi-wan sends Ezra back to the Rebels while he fights his old enemy. Of course, Obi-wan wins. Just before he dies, Maul asks if the chosen one is here and Obi-wan confirms it.
Ezra returns to the Rebel base with a new ship. He admits to everyone that he is where he should be and they should continue with their mission.
Obi-wan, still on Tatooine, watches a young Luke Skywalker from afar.
I was really looking forward to Obi-wan’s appearance in the series. Disney has been touting this moment for the past couple of weeks. In the end, this episode was rather boring. The only real fight – between Obi-wan and Maul – was over quickly. Ezra didn’t even fight the Sand People when they attacked. Most of this episode was about Ezra learning that maybe he doesn’t know what is best and perhaps he should stay on track. Even then, there weren’t any consequences to Ezra’s actions. No one reprimanded him for stealing a ship and running off. The only comment about him returning with a completely different ship was an off-handed one from Zeb. It feels like the only reason this episode existed was to wrap up the Darth Maul story. I’m finding myself pretty disappointed in this season. It seems to have completely veered off from the previous two seasons and I’m not sure that, at this point, it can be saved from itself.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
