English Dub Review: Sasaki and Peeps “Death Games and Demons”

Overview

Sasaki and Futari Shizuka are trying to stop Magical Pink when they get pulled into something new.

Our Take

Picking up from the previous episode, “Sasaki and Peeps” throws Sasaki and his companions into an increasingly bizarre conflict between angels and demons, whose violent rivalry ends up involving unsuspecting people. Meanwhile, the Neighbor’s growing obsession with Sasaki takes another disturbing turn, making her increasingly unpredictable and raising questions about how she’ll react when she encounters him in the alternate world.

The rest of the proceedings deliver an especially bizarre assortment of encounters, from magical girls and psychics to supernatural death games and gruesome violence. While some of these developments are entertaining, the sudden shifts in tone make certain scenes feel awkwardly disconnected, particularly when Sasaki barely reacts to the disturbing events unfolding around him. The episode also juggles Elsa’s personal struggles and the ongoing political tensions, leaving little room for any one development to breathe.

Overall, this was an entertaining but messy episode that struggles to balance its many competing storylines. Some character reactions feel poorly handled, and the constant introduction of new elements occasionally overshadows the actual events. Nevertheless, the sheer absurdity of watching these wildly different characters get caught up in the same supernatural conflict remains amusing, even when the storytelling doesn’t quite hold together.
