English Dub Review: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War- The Calamity “Defend You”

Overview:

Confronting Yhwach, Ichigo awakens the power of the Hollow deep within, becoming Demi-Hollowfied.

Our Take(Spoilers):

The only negative thing I have to say about this episode is one of the anime tropes I loathe being front and center. You know the one, when someone gets stabbed or hit really hard and they puke up blood. I’m no doctor but typically when you cough up or throw up blood that’s pretty serious. Like almost always fatal kind of serious. While fighting Yhwach, Ichigo, Orihime, and Rukia did this trope like three times each. When you’ve been stabbed I don’t need to see you spit up blood to know that you’ve been seriously injured.

Now onto why I think this show might be the best shonen jump anime we’ve gotten. I think I understand why One Piece is doing a full-on remake of their anime. The animation styles have changed and gotten so much better that if Bleach would have finished back when it first aired I don’t know if it would have been this awesome. I want to say that the animation is carrying this show but that would imply that the rest of the show is bad which isn’t the case at all.

I never read the manga for Bleach so I’m not sure what things have been changed but I hope that Orihime isn’t actually dead. I don’t know what type of power she awakened to but they sure made it seem like she’s gone. Of course I’m sure that Yhwach isn’t truly defeated yet and I think that if Orihime died only for him to coe back that would be as close to character assassination as possible in my eyes. Sure, she didn’t know that he would come back but still.

Up until this point I wasn’t that invested in Uryu facing off against Haschwalth but I think I might be now. I don’t know what Uryu has up his sleeve but it seems like it will be more than just a new power-up. Uryu fights using his mind more than anything and I can’t wait to see what his plan is for what I assume is the finale of that particular fight.

Orihime said “I reject” like fifty times this episode and I think that it’s ironic that’s her catchphrase because I also reject the fact that she’s dead. I don’t believe it and I refuse to accept it. I’m hoping she’s alive because with how good this series has been I’m hoping it’s all leading to a sequel series like Boruto but ya know… better.
