English Dub Review: Mushoku Tensei “Another Domestic Disaster?”

Overview:

Rudeus accompanies Roxy on a bodyguard mission and runs into an unexpected face from his past.

Our Take(Spoilers):

People like to clown on Rudeus and his wives for being pro-polygamy, but I’ve always thought that if people love each other and aren’t hurting anyone, who cares? I bring this up because while on a routine escort mission, Rudeus comes face-to-face with someone from his past. Sara was someone who came into his life at a difficult time. Eris had just left him, and he was feeling pretty worthless. This led to him having erectile dysfunction, and before Sara could say something bad about him, he said something bad about her instead.

Flash forward to now, and it creates a pretty awkward situation when two of the people have a past like that. Luckily, Rudeus has an amazing wife in Sylphie, and Princess Ariel is a homie as well. Sara and Rudy get paired off to go do something together, and this gives them the chance to talk. They both let bygones be bygones and move on.

This led to a kind of funny moment where Sylphie was surprised that Rudy didn’t try to make Sara his third wife. He said that Roxy and Sylphie would be all he needed. Sylphie mentioned that if he meets someone special, he shouldn’t close himself off. A special bit of editing happened here because we immediately went into a scene with Eris. That felt like some foreshadowing, and I can’t wait for that to happen if so.

Eris had a test of her own to pass to become a Sword King. The test didn’t seem specifically hard or anything. All she had to do was beat Nina in a sparring match, which was something she had done a bunch of times before. But both of them have grown to this point, and the guy running the test is a Sword God, so he must know what he’s doing.

Between the Eris fight and the monster fights throughout the episode, I was once again reminded how amazing Studio Bind is with their animation. I know that they’re a fairly new studio and were created specifically for Mushoku Tensei, but I would love to see what they can do with other anime. The fight scenes are soooo good that I can kind of understand why people are upset with the slower-paced episodes, but I think we need both to have an appreciation of them.
