English Dub Review: Goodbye, Lara “Meet Me at Biwako Terrace Saturday at 10”
Overview:
Lara encounters Luca, a boy who looks exactly like the prince she once loved.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Luca is already better than the prince that Lara previously fell in love with. He did notice that Lara had turned into a mermaid, despite Mari throwing her into Lake Biwa. Bit of a side tangent: I love how two of the most prominent moments with Mari are her punching Lara in the face or pushing her into a lake. Mari is a character I would like to get more screen time.
Things seem to be going swimmingly (pun intended) for Luca and Lara until something triggering happens. Luca is using Lara as his model for his painting, and while they’re together one time, he bumps his canvas and one of those palette knives falls off. Lara sees it and is reminded of when the prince freaked out at her mermaid form and threatened her with a knife. I understand that PTSD is something that isn’t easy to get over, but what happened after this was a little odd.
Lara cut off all contact with Luca, and he couldn’t figure out what he did wrong. I felt bad for the guy because the main issue that cropped up between Lara and the prince was a non-issue for Luca. Lara did the right thing by deciding that she owed it to Luca to end things in person. When they met up, he began to show a lot of emotion, and I think that they’ve smoothed things over. But it looked like there might be an issue because there were some water-soaked shoes in Mari’s entryway, which leads me to believe that Lisa is there and might screw things up between Lara and Luca.
I have a small technical issue to bring up. Now I need to add a caveat to what I’m about to say. I got a new TV today, and that could have been the issue, but this episode looked off to me. It appeared grainy to me, and what makes me think it wasn’t the TV was that the other episodes I reviewed today didn’t look bad at all. The animation style of this show is purposely old-school, I believe, and I’m all for that. But when it looks like my internet hasn’t rendered the show properly, that makes it less enjoyable. I loved last week’s episode with Lisa, and focusing more on Lara in this episode was something I thought would be disappointing, but I like where things are going with her and Luca.
