English Dub Review: Kaiju Girl Caramelise “The Scary Kaiju Fest”

Rinko’s old paramour returns to take Kuroe to a heavy metal festival.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Okay, I’m willing to admit that I might be wrong about Minami. I’m starting to think he doesn’t know that Kuroe is the kaiju because of how he interacted with “Harugon”, Kuroe’s kaiju form. But this show has skyrocketed to one of my favorites of the year so far. Mainly because, as of the end of this episode, Kuroe and Minami are officially dating. I think with Kuroe turning into a kaiju, it will be just enough conflict to keep things interesting even though they’re already a couple.
The reason I think Minami might not know is that he spent a lot of time running after Harugon. He even stood in front of her and tried to talk to her, and they were alone. I feel like if he knew that Kuroe was Harugon, then he would have said something to her. Maybe he wouldn’t have; I suppose I could see him knowing, but I also don’t want to be a person who doesn’t admit when they’re wrong.
We got introduced to a new character, Hibino. It seems that he had a past relationship with Kuroe’s mom, Rinko. He knows about Kuroe’s “condition” and is here to investigate the kaiju but doesn’t seem to know that Kuroe IS the kaiju. That makes almost no sense to me; he and Rinko were both biologists, so I think that he would be able to tell that the coloring on the kaiju and Kuroe are almost identical. Plus, doesn’t he find it weird that his ex is a single mom with no sign of a father anywhere in the picture? I’m definitely leaning towards the theory that Kuroe was born from the egg that Rinko has.
I’m loving where this show is going despite the fact that there are some inconsistencies. A romance show where the couple gets together by the fourth episode? Only the best of the best do that. Not only that, but you add the cool kaiju stuff on top of that? Now we’ve got a classic on our hands. Not to mention how fun Kuroe is as a character. The fact that she and Hibino bonded over metal music is hilarious to me. Seeing how much she loves metal music was a thing we haven’t seen in anime very often. I’d like to see there be another kaiju or something that Kuroe could fight so she’s the “good” kaiju, but other than that I’m loving this show.
