English Dub Review: Yowayowa Sensei “A Weak and Wimpy Photography Training Camp”

Once again, I don’t intend to go too hard on singing Karlii Hoch’s praises in a different review. But she is such a talented VA. Hiwamura couldn’t be more different than Pride Royal Ivy, but Karlii voices her in a way that I have had to double-check that it’s her in both roles. As I mentioned in my other review, she’s become a VA I’ve definitely taken notice of, and now whenever I see she’s in a show, it’s going to make me more excited.
As for this episode, there’s a lot to unpack, and honestly most of it is good. The worst part is how dumb Hiwamura is when it comes to romantic stuff. But, interestingly, Abikura’s sister and Kuguri are both trying to set up Hiwamura and Abikura. His sister wants Hiwamura to be her sister-in-law, and I can’t blame her there, I guess. It is kind of disappointing that she is one of the problematic archetypes, the perverted older sister type. Just because they’re both girls doesn’t mean the way she interacts with some of these high schoolers isn’t, ya know… bad.
This wasn’t the only romantic confession we got, though I don’t know what will come of this one. Mizuki got lost, and everyone went looking for her. Of course, it was Abikura who found her, and when she realized that he was looking for her, she started to realize something. She blurts out loud that she thinks she has feelings for Abikura. It seemed like he heard her, so the next episode will go a long way to deciding how I feel about this show. One of my biggest pet peeves is confessions of love being blown off or misunderstood. Or the worst of the worst, being unheard cause of fireworks or something. I think we all know that Abikura has feelings for Hiwamura, so I would like to see how this is handled.
I also have to commend Abikura on his self-control because if I were playing the king game and I was told to kiss my crush, I would have a hard time not doing that. Not only that, but they ended up sleeping together. Not in a sexual sense, but literally shared a bed because of Abikura’s sister and Kuguri’s shenanigans. But we’ll see how Abikura handles Mizuki’s confession IF he heard her, because that will determine how I feel about him moving forward.
