English Dub Review: Hana-Kimi “I’ll Wait”
Overview:
Everyone is enjoying the trip to Hokkaido. But Sano is lost in thought and wanders off, so Mizuki follows him.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Is anyone interested in someone that they actually have a shot with? Julia sees Hokuto and thinks he’s the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, but of course we all know he’s gay. Nanba is interested in Julia, but she won’t give him the time of day. Then there’s Nakatsu and his infatuation with Mizuki, who he thinks is a guy but is actually a girl. So will his feelings change once he finds out? Of course, we have Mizuki, who is in love with Sano, but Sano thinks she’s a guy, right? Only Mizuki doesn’t know that Sano knows that she’s a girl. I know you can’t help who you have feelings for, but this is all sorts of mixed up, and I hope something starts happening to advance the plot a little.
I had high hopes after Nakatsu confessed to Mizuki in front of everyone. But other than him acting protective and trying to keep Mizuki to himself (super healthy behavior btw), almost nothing has come of it. One thing I’ve enjoyed is that it has created tension between him and Julia because he thinks that Julia is into Mizuki, or at least trying to keep him away from her. Honestly, I think the tension between the two is mostly sexual, and they’d be a good couple, but you saw what I said about barking and trees, right?
There’s something that happens at the end of the episode that I hope turns into some plot progression. Since Mizuki is actually a girl, she is currently sharing a room with like four other guys; she’s had to be sneaky with how she does things. No group baths or anything like that, so she sneaks out to take a bath after midnight. Well, guess who was in there with her? Sano.
Sano and Mizuki noticed each other, and of course Mizuki doesn’t know that Sano knows she’s a girl. What I’m hoping happens is that this moment leads to him telling her that he knows. I’m going to be honest I don’t see that happening. This show has fumbled almost every meaningful plot moment it comes up with thus far so I shouldn’t start expecting it now. But I can hope at least right?
