English Dub Review: Wistoria: Wand and Sword “The Page to Be Turned”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Cerridwen guides Will through his memories to discover the origins of Wis, revealing a cherished emotion.
Our Take:
Will and Julius got some unexpected help from a witch whom everyone believed to be dangerous. However, she seemed generous enough to be trustworthy, especially since Will is now targeted by the insane Kreutz. Well, aside from the unexpected, yet hilarious, ending of last week’s episode, when Cerridwen requested Will to take off his clothes. That raises a red flag regarding her character, but this episode reveals a logical reason for it: to examine Will’s condition, which may be connected to a scar on his back. To do so, Cerridwen sends Will back in time to uncover the answer as to how to use the magical energy he stored, resulting in him revisiting a part of his early life with a younger, more adventurous Elfie he had forgotten.
This week’s episode has that title for a reason: it unveiled the long-forgotten page in Will’s background, revealing his expansive childhood. In this case, it further explores his friendship with Elfie as they navigate a hazardous forest and confront a mage-created monster responsible for Will’s scar. The show had given us an explanation for Will’s quest to reach the tower: to reunite with his childhood friend. But as the show progresses, it gradually builds on that purpose by exploring that friendship further, increasing viewers’ desire to root for their reunion. “The Page to Be Turned” is another example of that progression. Through its vibrant presentation, color palettes, and heart, the episode effectively showcases Will’s determination not only to be reunited with Elfie but also to protect her from harm, just as she protected him when they were kids. Here’s hoping it’s enough for him to complete the Second Bloom.
