English Dub Review: An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess “An Observation Log of a Self-Proclaimed Villainess and Cecil Glo Alphasta.”

Overview:

Cecil wakes after witnessing Pii-chan vanish into nothingness, but Bertia’s anxiety hasn’t abated even though the judgment event is over. Cecil convinces Bertia to tell him about the different routes the future takes in the game scenario.

Our Take(Spoilers):

I have no segue to mention this, so I’m going to talk about it at the start. Cecil had a line of dialogue that was so funny to me that I feel like I have to mention it. When Bertia is explaining what happens to him in other routes, she mentions that he goes missing, gets poisoned, among other things. Cecil says, “What an unsettling collection of words,” and I thought it was hilarious. Alright, now that I’ve discussed something only I will probably find funny, let’s get to the review.

This episode was both amazing and disappointing, somehow. It was amazing because Cecil kissed Bertia, making her his partner of destiny. What was disappointing was the fact that Bertia looks at it as a way to track each other to avoid unfortunate accidents. Bertia mentioned that she loves Cecil, but for some reason, it seems like she’s not willing to commit to pursuing the relationship with him. Luckily, Cecil isn’t giving up, and I think we’ll be okay, but Bertia’s persistence on getting Cecil with Heronia still seems in play.

One of my favorite parts of this episode was learning what happened to Cecil in some of the different routes. In one, he becomes someone who only finds enjoyment in battle and seeks out strong opponents. The way Cecil looked in that particular route reminded me of Dimitri from the video game, Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I’m currently playing through that game again, so that could be why.

The other routes were interesting as well. There was one where he leaves his brother in charge of the kingdom, and it was technically a happy ending, but as Bertia states, his brother is going to struggle leading the kingdom during wartime. There’s also one where he gets fascinated by black powder and steals one of his friend’s passions. In that one, he creates a cannon that helps win a war.

You might be noticing a theme with these other routes. Almost all of them include a war breaking out. I’m starting to wonder if war with a neighboring country is a forgone conclusion at this point. It was also odd that they never gave a name to the nation in question; they kept saying “a neighboring country,” which was odd. Either way, we got another solid episode.
