English Dub Review: Snowball Earth “The Cost of Courage”

Overview:

The battle continues. Tetsuo can face kaiju in combat with no problem, but what about when he tries to talk to the enemy?

Our Take(Spoilers):

I never thought of Tetsuo’s issues in reverse. Hagane can’t believe how brave Tetsuo is when facing Kaiju. She’s freaking out in the cockpit while Tetsuo is mostly calm, when it comes to the fighting at least. At his lowest moment, she grabs his hand and helps him realize this. Yukio has spent so much time trying to get Tetsuo to open up to people that he didn’t think about whether Tetsuo was prepared to deal with people being mean to him. That might sound minor, but think about it if you’d never interacted with people and your first time being verbally abused was near adulthood? It would be tough to handle, especially in the middle of an intense battle.

Aoi gets restless at night and likes to go on excursions, which is why the attack was planned during such an excursion. If Aoi isn’t at the mall, then the flame kaiju will sleep through the attack. I’ll be honest, I don’t see how Tetsuo is going to save the day here. Conventional storytelling tells me that something will happen to get a good ending, but I don’t know how. That has me excited for the next episode. I hope it doesn’t drag on, though.
