English Dub Review: I Want to End This Love Game “My Childhood Friend Will Do Anything”

Overview:

Miku and Yukiya realize the consequences of “anything goes” in the love game.

Our Take:

I know that this is only the fourth episode and it could go a number of different ways but I’m feeling disappointed. After an amazing date, our dumb couple has now seemingly reset back to the status quo. Romance has become a tough genre for me to review because I love it but more often than not they don’t go anywhere in the anime format. You’re forced to read through a manga or light novel to get any satisfaction. I thought this one might be a little different but considering the “love game” is the whole premise I think I was naive to think this would progress at a decent rate.

It’s not the worst I’ve seen by any means. Both of the protagonists clearly love each other but they’ve prioritized this game of theirs. As I’ve gotten older I’ve learned that life is too short to waste on a game with someone you care about and I hope that they realize that soon as well.

In this episode they both start to worry what will happen when the game ends. Will they still be friends or will love ruin a friendship? When both of them have no idea how the other feels I can understand the concern. As I’ve mentioned this reminds me of Kaguya-sama Love is War but that show is hilarious. The gags everyone pulls on each other in that is the best. The tricks that get pulled here aren’t nearly as funny so it feels like the romance should be the focus but that’s not going anywhere either.
