English Dub Review: Farming Life in Another World “Winter”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
The Great Tree Village experiences another winter.
Our Take:
Another winter season has arrived for the village’s residents, which should mean they have enough experience to embrace the hardships of its cold embrace, right? Well, that may not be the case due to their new arrivals and food supply. While the Nyunyu Daphne can survive without food because, obviously, they’re plants, the amount of food the minotaurs and centaurs eat isn’t very fortunate for others. This led Hiraku to provide them with new cuisines they can make involving rice, seaweed, and sushi. This is pretty much another easy fix to a problem that can be resolved in seconds, but that’s not the only issue occurring in this winter-themed episode.
In addition to the new dishes they created, “Winter” also features a dilemma in which Grattz attempts to make peace with the valley by marrying a female minotaur named Ronana. However, this doesn’t bode well for Beezel and Randan, who aren’t too thrilled with Grattz resigning to marry a minotaur. I mean, if the love is real, it shouldn’t matter if the two species are different than one another. However, this is another scenario that’s just solved abruptly without any real consequences, a usual trend for a tranquil, slice-of-life anime like this. Fortunately, “Winter” more than makes up for it with its fun and charming demonstrations of making rice-related foods. I might even say that this season’s episode handled its blend of humor and serenity for its food knowledge a bit better this time around.
