English Dub Review: Kaiju Girl Caramelise “Charge This One Strike With Love”
Overview:
The threat of the flying kaiju continues as all hope seems lost.
Our Take(Spoilers):
I’m going to take a moment to explain my preview statement. Typically, the end of something is one of the most important parts for me, and with there still being manga left out there, it stands to reason that this isn’t the full ending of the series yet. Usually, that would bug me, and I would hate it, but in this case it’s not as bad as usual. Hopefully I won’t sound too much like a hypocrite, but hear me out.
Don’t get me wrong, there are plenty of mysteries that I still have questions about when it pertains to this series. Mostly, what is going on with Kuroe’s mother, Rinko? What is going on with her and the kaiju? Why can Kuroe turn into a human form, but her “sister” can’t? But the main thing that I enjoyed about this show was resolved pretty well.
Minami knows about Kuroe now, and they’ve worked things out. I’ll admit it would be cool to see the show in a monster-of-the-week format, where Minami helps keep Kuroe’s secret while she goes off to fight a different kaiju every week. It would also be fun to see if there are other kaiju that can turn into a human or something. A few threads are dangling, sure, but it’s more things that I would like to see but not have to see, if that makes sense?
One of the best parts was that we got to see a kiss between Minami and Kuroe! That’s right, we got a kiss in a romance anime before the series came to an end! I mean, this was the season finale, so I suppose it’s technically the end, but it was still more progress than we usually get from other shows like this.
Now that I think about it, this show has made great progress in the romance department for most of the series. Minami and Kuroe got together early on, and now they’ve kissed. I’m just surprised it took Minami so long to figure out Kuroe’s secret. Maybe I gave him more credit than he deserved.
This was probably my favorite show of the season because of all the things I’ve gone on about for the last twelve weeks. The action is enjoyable, and the romance is better than most shows where that’s the sole focus. I would like to see more, but if this is truly the last we see of this series, then I’m content.
