English Dub Review: Trigun Stargaze “Quo Vadis”
Overview:
The immigrant fleet arrives, and Knives single-handedly threatens to eliminate them.
Our Take:
I like to think that I have good media literacy. When it comes to subtext and metaphors, I think I can pick them up pretty well. But I’m at a loss for what happened here. We’ve spent a lot of episodes learning that Knives hates humans and wants to wipe them out. In this episode, we learn that the reason Plants die with no humans to tend to them is that they get lonely. We are then led to believe that is what is going on with Knives. He’s lonely, that’s why he wants to keep Vash so close and why he hates humans.
It wasn’t hard to tell that we were reaching the end of the story but I expected a more fulfilling outcome. What we got here was a whimper of an ending. Instead of destroying everything it seems that Knives decided to creat life on No Man’s Land. Now it seems to be an Eden of sorts and people can finally live there without Plants but for some reason they all decide to leave. It was an ending that left me with more questions than answers.
