English Dub Review: Gnosia “Bug; World With A Future”

OVERVIEW (SPOILERS)

Now knowing they are a glitch in the system and trapped in a loop that endangers all of their friends and the universe, Yuri must figure out how to co-exist in this timeline without their real self finding them, or find a way to remove themselves altogether.

OUR TAKE

We’re finally back to trying to speed run through these late Gnosia reviews, and it looks like we’re already at the end! Except we’re not, but the second of these two episodes does end with what feels like an end, with a lengthy “where are they now” sequence for most of the crew and scrolling credits that would typically be put at the end of a series. Though you have to remember that this show is based on a game, and with three more episodes to go, it looks like we’ve reached the “Normal” ending, where things are resolved but it’s clear there’s something else left to be unlocked, which is what the last few episodes will likely focus on. So, knowing that this is not the end of the story, let’s look at these episodes and how they set up the grand conclusion coming. We ended the last review talking about how Yuri found themselves (both singular and plural) in what was their hardest loop yet, as they uncovered that they were a copy made by the Gnosia in place of the real Yuri who died. But now they’re in a loop where that Yuri is alive, so making contact with them, or even having a crewmate realize there are two Yuris, risks collapsing the universe and restarting the loop. Maybe workshop these infiltration plans a little better next time, Gnos.

Luckily, while this all seems impossible, this loop has some hidden perks. For one, if no other Gnosia are on board, that means Yuri can trust the advice of everyone they talk to without worrying about them being out to kill them. With that, they’re able to get some help from Raqio, already established to be knowledgeable about the Silver Key, as well as some morale boost from SQ, who knows plenty about making her own identity despite being made as a copy of someone else, to rally and get the Silver Key to take them to just prior to that day, when the crew were fleeing the planet they sometimes got infected. With that, Yuri finds Setsu, who hasn’t learned about loops yet, and saves them from an almost fatal accident by giving THEM their own Silver Key. This closes the loop and completes Yuri’s Silver Key, leading to a big victory party with every other character, though Setsu, now fully caught up, shows Yuri a portal that opens when a Silver Key is complete. In order to give this Yuri a place in this new and peaceful world, Setsu goes through and seemingly erases their existence to make two Yuris existing somehow totally acceptable. And while that would be an acceptable, if bittersweet, ending, you know we gotta try for one hundred percent completion.
