English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “Himmel’s Memories”
Overview:
When Frieren’s party cannot afford the fare to cross Lake Korridor, the captain proposes a trade.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Did you know that a group of dragons is called a “thunder”? Not a herd, school, flight, or anything else but a thunder. I have to admit it’s a pretty badass name, but for someone who has consumed as much fantasy as the next guy, I was a little surprised I hadn’t heard of or even thought of what a group of dragons might be called.
Maybe I’ve been playing too much Monster Hunter Stories 3, but watching Stark cut off the head of five dragons in a row made me a little sad. In that game, you hatch and raise monsters that look like dragons. On the other hand, seeing Stark come so far since the first time we saw him was pretty badass. He handled a lot of dragons like they were nothing. In fact, Fern was concerned because he had his head chewed on by a dragon and was barely harmed at all.
Unable to afford the ferry across the lake, the captain proposes that they help him with something. He wants to go to an island in search of Himmel’s memoirs. Of course, Frieren agrees, and we learn that Himmel never did a job for free. At first, I thought we were about to learn that he was a jerk. Turns out he would accept worthless trinkets and things because he didn’t want people to feel like they owed him. Classic good guy Himmel.
As the group is leaving the island, they are attacked by a Kraken, which grabs Frieren and flings her around. The episode ends there, so I suppose we’ll have to see if this is a big deal encounter or if it’s being played for laughs next week in the final episode.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
