English Dub Review: To Your Eternity “A Willingness to Believe”
Overview
Tonari, Aiko, and their schoolmates fight the Fushi impostor.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, the conflict with the Nokkers intensifies as their disturbing adaptability becomes increasingly clear. Even though the scale of the battle is smaller than some of the series’ earlier arcs, the tension remains strong as several characters contribute to the fight in different ways. At the same time, the episode continues exploring the emotional fallout surrounding Mizuha, adding a personal layer to the chaos and reminding viewers how deeply these events have affected everyone involved.
The episode once again leans heavily into the series’ philosophical themes, particularly Fushi’s evolving mindset toward his enemies. However, this also highlights a noticeable flaw: the persistent “everyone/everything can be redeemed” trope. While empathy and understanding are core ideas of the story, the narrative sometimes pushes this theme too far, suggesting that even clearly unhinged & destructive forces deserve forgiveness. After decades of similar storytelling across media, this approach can feel overused and occasionally clash with the brutal reality of the threats the characters are facing.
Overall, the episode still delivers action, suspense, and well-earned tension, character involvement, and the emotional weight the series is known for, even if its themes may feel rushed for the audience in terms of tonal whiplash. The story continues emphasizing trust, hope, and cooperation over pure strength, but the heavy focus on redemption may not land for everyone. Even so, with the conflict far from resolved, the stage remains set for a major turning point in the episodes ahead.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
