English Dub Review: Kaya-chan Isn’t Scary “Hide-and-Seek Isn’t Scary/Cameras Aren’t Scary/Aunt Nana Isn’t Scary?”
Overview
After what happened at the festival, Kaya lost her confidence in facing specters.
Our Take
Picking up from the previous episode, the newest installment leans into both character recovery and rising tension. Kaya may be shaken, but at her core, she’s still the same kind-hearted and determined girl, gradually regaining her confidence with support from those around her. The episode balances lighter moments, such as her interactions with Chie and Namu’s quietly watchful presence, with an underlying unease, as even seemingly harmless situations carry a strange, unsettling edge. Despite feeling a bit scattered at times, Kaya is effectively adjusting to everything that’s been happening since the recent incidents.
As things progress, the rest of the proceedings begin to shift into much darker territory, delivering a mix of eerie encounters and major story revelations without losing its emotional grounding. The contrast between everyday school life and the creeping horror is especially effective, with certain scenes standing out for their unexpectedly intense moments. At the same time, the narrative begins to hint at deeper truths surrounding Kaya’s family, adding layers of intrigue and raising the stakes in a way that feels both natural and ominous. The result is an episode that keeps you engaged through both its suspense and its expanding mystery.
Overall, this episode strikes a strong balance between wholesome character moments and genuinely chilling developments, making it one of the more memorable entries so far. It builds intrigue without relying heavily on explicit reveals, instead letting the atmosphere and subtle hints do most of the work. With its mix of tension, emotional beats, and growing uncertainty about what lies ahead, the series continues to stand out as a surprisingly gripping and underrated watch.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
