English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “The Divine Revolte”

Overview:

Frieren, Fern, and Methode enter the woods to look for the four-armed Divine Revolte.

Our Take:

Revolte is the perfect name for this new demon because, with all due respect, he is revolting. The demons in this show have always been unsettling and creepy to a degree, but this was the first time that I felt legitimately scared. Almost like I was watching a horror movie. Revolte is a four-armed demon that has the body of a snake instead of legs. He’s trained for multiple lifetimes, and the way Frieren describes him and other demons makes you think. I wish we got a little more characterization of the demons, but that’s a personal thing. Jonah Scott voices Revolte, I’m pretty sure, and he does charismatic creepiness well.

Stark stays behind to protect Genau because he wants to stay with the bodies of the villagers. That leaves Frieren, Fern, and Methode to go demon hunting. I like that we’re getting to spend more time with some of the first-class exam takers like Methode. I hope we get to see more of them, but I never would have guessed that Methode was into cute things and cuddling. She dangles a grimoire in front of Frieren in exchange for headpats. The cuddling is unfortunately interrupted when two demons attack.
