Dropout Dives into Animation: New Short-Form Series ‘ToonOut’ Announced
Dropout, the independent comedy streaming platform that rose from the ashes of CollegeHumor, is officially expanding its horizons. In a move that marks a significant evolution for the service, Dropout has announced the launch of its first-ever scripted animated series, titled ToonOut.
While Dropout has built a massive, loyal following through unscripted hits like Game Changer, Dimension 20, and Very Important People, ToonOut represents the platform’s first dedicated venture into the world of scripted animation.
A Heavy-Hitting Creative Roster
The series isn’t just a small experiment; Dropout is bringing in some of the most respected names in modern animation to bring the project to life. The initial slate of episodes features a “who’s who” of industry talent, including:
-
Matt Braly: Creator of Disney’s Amphibia.
-
Raj Brueggemann: Known for Big City Greens and Twelve Forever.
-
Victor Courtright: Co-executive producer of ThunderCats Roar and Aquaman: King of Atlantis.
-
Violaine Briat: Storyboard artist on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
-
Kay Hayes: Work includes Monsters at Work and Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure.
-
Jonathon Wallach: Another standout from the Big City Greens team.
Release Schedule and Format
ToonOut is designed as a short-form series, allowing for a variety of comedic styles and experimental visuals. The debut is set for March 24, and fans can expect a steady stream of content for the foreseeable future.
Dropout has planned a 25-episode rollout, with new installments dropping every other Tuesday. This schedule ensures that the series will remain a fixture on the platform well into early 2027, with the final episode of this initial run slated for February 23, 2027.
Why This Matters for Dropout
Since rebranding from CollegeHumor in 2018, Dropout has defied the odds in a volatile streaming market by focusing on niche, high-quality, ad-free comedy. By moving into animation, the platform is signaling that it has the stability and the creative ambition to compete with larger streamers in the scripted space.
For fans, ToonOut offers a chance to see world-class animators work with the “anything goes” comedic freedom that Dropout is known for. With the trailer already generating buzz, March 24 looks to be the start of a bold new chapter for the “little streamer that could.”
ToonOut premieres March 24 on the Dropout app, available on iOS, Android, Roku, Apple TV, and more.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
