Aubrey Plaza and Jason Schwartzman’s Animated Cat Comedy “Kevin” Sets April Premiere on Prime Video
The cat is officially out of the bag. Prime Video has announced that “Kevin,” the highly anticipated adult animated comedy from the minds of Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert, will premiere all eight episodes on Monday, April 20, 2026.
To mark the announcement, the streamer released the show’s title sequence, featuring a catchy original song that sets the tone for the series’ unique brand of feline existentialism.
A Relatable Feline Mid-Life Crisis
Loosely inspired by a real-life breakup and the pet caught in the middle, the series follows Kevin, a housecat voiced by Jason Schwartzman (The French Dispatch, Isle of Dogs). When his human owners unexpectedly split up, Kevin decides he’s done with the relationship too.
Instead of picking a side, he “breaks up” with his humans and moves into a local pet rescue in Astoria, Queens. There, he joins forces with a chaotic band of misfit animals to figure out what he actually wants out of life—now that he’s no longer a domestic housecat.
A Star-Studded Cast
The series boasts an impressive ensemble of comedy heavyweights:
-
Aubrey Plaza: Voices Dana, one half of the human couple Kevin leaves behind.
-
Whoopi Goldberg: Voices Cupcake, one of Kevin’s new roommates at the rescue.
-
John Waters: Voices Armando, another cynical rescue resident.
-
Aparna Nancherla: Voices Judy, rounding out the trio of Kevin’s new cat friends.
-
Amy Sedaris: Voices Brandi, a dog belonging to the rescue’s owner.
-
Gil Ozeri: Voices Seth, the human who runs the Astoria pet rescue.
The “Iconic” Theme Song
The newly revealed title sequence features an original track titled “I’m Coming Home,” performed by Jason Schwartzman and co-written by Schwartzman and series composer Dan Romer.
Executive producers Plaza, Wengert, and Dan Murphy jokingly compared the track to other famous instances of actors singing their own theme songs, stating: “Jason writing and performing the ‘Kevin’ theme could be the most iconic instance of a character singing his own theme song since Frasier poisoned our minds and souls with his tossed salads and scrambled eggs.”
Behind the Scenes
The series is produced by Titmouse (The Legend of Vox Machina, Big Mouth), Evil Hag Productions, and Amazon MGM Studios. Joe Wengert serves as the showrunner, with a production team that includes veterans from Little Demon and Star Trek: Lower Decks.
“Kevin” will be available to stream globally on Prime Video starting April 20, 2026.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
