English Dub Review: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End “The Hero of the South” “Somewhere She’d Like”

Overview:

In a village in the northern lands, Frieren’s party is hired to polish a statue of a hero.

Frieren’s party dreams of hot springs as they reach Etwas, but the village is abandoned.

Our Take(Spoilers):

In the first episode of our double batch, we learned that there was a hero of the South, and I have to say that guy was a lot more debonair than Himmel was. He even went and visited Frieren to try and get her to join him, but for some reason, he had a power that allowed him to see the future, so he knew she would say no. I think that made me love this character even though we only got about fifteen minutes of screentime from him. He knew he was going to die, but he still went out and fought the good fight, because he knew that it would give Himmel and the others the chance they would need. I hope this isn’t the last we hear of him, but I have a feeling this was the beginning and end of his story.

Now… the third episode… I have mixed feelings. Fern wanted Stark to pay attention to her. To mess with her, he brings up going out on a date. She gets up and mentions that she will see him tomorrow. The funny part is that both of them asked Frieren for advice when she fumbled a relationship with a guy who was in love with her for decades. But my main problem is that Stark asked Fern out “as a joke,” and I’ve been under the impression that they both have feelings for each other. Now they’re going to have their date in the next episode, so things could change, but I hope that we get some romance going. We’ve learned that Frieren is way too oblivious to ever notice, so this might be our only shot.
