Dystopian Drama “Nippon Sangoku” Gets English Dub Trailer Ahead of April Premiere on Prime Video

The highly anticipated tactical drama “Nippon Sangoku: The Three Nations of the Crimson Sun” is gearing up for its global debut. Amazon Prime Video has released an English-dubbed trailer for the series, confirming that the dystopian epic will receive a simultaneous release across more than 240 countries and territories starting April 5, 2026.

Based on the acclaimed manga by Ikka Matsuki, the series is being positioned as a flagship title for Prime Video’s growing anime slate.

A New “Three Kingdoms” Era

Set in a near-future Japan, the story takes place 100 years after the collapse of modern civilization due to nuclear war, environmental catastrophes, and systemic corruption. The country has regressed to a state resembling the Meiji era and has fractured into three warring nations:

  • The Yamato Empire

  • The Republic of Osaka

  • The Kingdom of Kyushu

The protagonist, Aoteru Misumi, is not a warrior but a humble local bureaucrat. Armed with nothing but an extraordinary intellect and “the power of words,” Aoteru embarks on a quest to reunify the fractured nation. The series follows his rise from an obscure official to the man history would eventually remember as a legendary master strategist.

Powerhouse Staff and Music

The production is being handled by Studio Kafka (The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2), with a creative team that has fans buzzing:

  • Director: Kazuaki Terasawa (The Ancient Magus’ Bride) leads the project.

  • Character Design: Takahiko Abiru, best known for his work on the brutal and detailed Vinland Saga, serves as character designer and chief animation director.

  • Music: The score is composed by the prolific Kevin Penkin (Made in Abyss, Tower of God), whose signature atmospheric soundscapes are prominently featured in the new trailer.

  • Opening Theme: The trailer also previews the opening song “Hidane” (Flashpoint) by Tatsuya Kitani, the artist behind the viral Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 opening.

Simuldub Confirmation

The release of the English trailer confirms that Amazon is doubling down on its “simuldub” strategy. Unlike previous years where fans often had to wait months for dubbed versions of Prime Video exclusives, Nippon Sangoku is expected to debut its dubbed and subbed versions simultaneously, or on a very short delay, to cater to its global audience in 240+ regions.
