English Dub Season Review: Tougen Anki Season One
Overview:
Long ago, demon-like creatures known as Oni butchered humans and brought on destruction solely for their own delight. A lone man named Momotarou opposed these gruesome, near-invincible monsters, but the war against them was just beginning.
Our Take(Spoilers):
Sitting down to do this review has me evaluating my life over the last twenty-four weeks. Perhaps it’s because it’s the day after New Year’s, or because I’ve had some significant life changes recently. I even went back and googled the date, twenty-four weeks ago, it was July 18th, in case you’re curious. That’s almost six months that I spent watching this show! This review will tell you if it is worth the time investment.
When I first started this show, I hated it. The story didn’t do anything special, and that can be a death sentence. While the show got a little bit better over its twenty-four episode run, it never got great. If you love a typical shonen action series and have been jonesing for a fix, then this show will be right up your alley. There’s nothing wrong with that; we all like junk food at times, and that’s the best way to describe this: it’s anime junk food.
There’s a second season already announced, and while I hope it will get better, I think Tougen Anki knows what it is and won’t change. There’s something to be said about knowing who you are, and maybe that isn’t a bad thing? Now that it’s all out, I suppose it won’t take you twenty-four weeks as it took me, but I think you can find something better to watch.

There's got to be some kind of twist that's going to happen with this. I don't know if they're setting up an April Fool's joke now or what's going on, but it seems too strange that they'd suddenly reverse on doing a fourth and fifth season after the show was already renewed and they were even just talking about working on those seasons like a couple months ago or something. Or maybe the two episodes yet to release will secretly somehow each be like a "season" in themselves?
