English Dub Review: Sentenced to Be a Hero “Sentence: Spearhead the Recapture of the Zewan Gan Tunnels 2”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Xylo’s party embarks on a suicide mission to save a group of miners trapped in the tunnels.

Our Take:
Heroes usually strive to protect the world from demonic monsters, but they also vow to protect its residents, regardless of the risks involved.  The latter is what Xylo attempts to do in this continuation of his latest assignment, as he, Norgalle, and Tatsuya head deeper into the mines to rescue the trapped miners.  Unsurprisingly, this is far from an easy rescue mission due to the number of faeries and the Demon Lord Lotus blocking their path.  But that’s nothing that Xylo and the others couldn’t handle, as the episode showcases more of Norgalle and Tatsuya’s fighting styles, especially the latter.  While Tatsuya may have lost his mind and the ability to talk due to dying multiple times, he’s shown himself to be a formidable fighter on the battlefield, particularly when battling Lotus.
In addition to its thrilling action and great animation, the episode also hints at Xylo’s depth in terms of his personality and relationship with Teoritta.  While he’s pretty stubborn towards Teoritta’s obsession with receiving praise and even hellbent on revenge, Xylo expresses his own form of generosity when he refuses to let everyone be deemed “expendable”, especially the miners.  I’m also left to believe that Xylo may have left Teoritta behind in the previous episode to ensure he doesn’t repeat the same mistake he made to his former goddess.  He may not have admitted it himself, but I had a gut feeling that that might be the case based on his background.  When I make assumptions like this, it’s easy to tell how engaged I am towards the anime so far, not just because of its impressive presentation, but also its characters and plot.  Hopefully, that trend will continue in Xylo’s next assignment.
