English Dub Review: Dark Moon: The Blood Altar “New Moon – Meeting -“

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Seven boys with a secret attend a night school.  They are strangely drawn to the transfer student Sooha.

Our Take:
Just when I thought I survived an academy full of vampires some time ago, I got pulled into another one.  This type of school, Decelis Academy, is pretty much what we would expect from other anime involving vampiric schools, now with werewolves to spice up its Twilight-like vibe.  However, what really caught my attention is that this latest anime, based on the “Dark Moon” manhwa series, is inspired by the South Korean boy band Enhypen and their music videos.  This is highly evident in the show’s main vampiric characters, who are based on each member’s appearance.  Speaking as someone who hasn’t heard of the group until this show, I’m guessing “Dark Moon” and its anime were created to raise awareness of the boy band and even delight its hardcore fans with their vampiric allure.
I can’t judge whether it made me a follower based on the first episode, which involves transfer student Sooha attending the academy while hiding her superhuman strength.  However, I will say that I have been enjoying the anime’s opening and ending songs from Enhypen so far, so that’s a start.  Besides that, it’s a serviceable start to what seems to be a mix of fantasy academy and teen romance, with a dash of “Twilight” about the teen boys secretly being vampires.  Of course, with the werewolves now coming into play, it’s definitely going to feel more and more like “Twilight”, but with superpowers, as the season progresses.  The question now is whether those comparisons would detract from the concept’s potential.
